I view my students as my equals and see each of them as uniquely positioned to contribute to class. Thus intensive student participation is also crucial to my teaching style. I seek to convey to students the excitement and intellectual stimulation sociology can bring to their worldviews and consequently encourage a deep, demanding engagement with course materials via a variety of interactive methods.
Over the course of my graduate career at Berkeley, I was a Graduate Student Instructor for Introduction to Sociology (taught by Prof. Ann Swidler), Introduction to Methods (taught by Prof. Sam Lucas), Classical Sociological Theory (taught by Prof. Swidler), and Contemporary Sociological Theory (taught by Prof. Cihan Tugal).
In Spring 2012, I was awarded a UC Berkeley Outstanding GSI Award.
Since coming to Yale, I have taught several courses:
Here is a guide to analytic writing I produced in Spring 2012.
Here is the unedited PowerPoint and audio of my lecture introducing historical sociology. It was delivered in Sam Lucas' introductory undergraduate methods class in Spring 2010. Because of the size of the file, it may take time to download. Please be patient.
Note: Because of data compression, the lecture audio may lose synchronization with the slides. If this happens, pause the presentation and restart it from its current position.
